Acrylic Nails

What are acrylic nails made of?
Acrylic nails are made by combining a liquid acrylic product with a powdered acrylic product. The two products (known as a monomer and a polymer, respectively) together form a soft ball that can be fashioned into a nail shape.
Once a nail technician applies this acrylic to a client’s nails, the material hardens and becomes much stronger, and then it can be buffed and filed to the customer’s liking.
Who invented acrylic nails?
You might be surprised to learn that acrylics as we know them today were first developed in 1934 by a dentist named Maxwell Lappe. He created these artificial nails in order to help nail-biters curb their habit. Who would’ve guessed that they’d become such a huge fashion statement in the decades following?
Gel Nails
We also offer Gel Nails too at our nail salon in Rotherham. During a gel manicure we apply a coat of coloured gel that looks very similar to a normal nail polish, the difference being you then place your hands until a UV light to ‘cure’ the gel, and then they’re dry.
Unlike normal nail polish, your gel polish won’t smudge and the drying time is very quick – no more dashing back to the salon because you smudged a nail on your way out the door!
The gel polish we use is kind to nails but will create a hard finish to ensure your new gel nails are long lasting and durable. We have a wide range of colours to choose from, so you’ll be spoiled for choice!

BIAB Nails
Ever heard of BIAB Gel? The ‘hard as nails’ alternative to classic powdered acrylic or Shellac Gel is trending big style in salons now and is the chosen product that allows your natural nails to grow healthier and more shielded – certainly a product that is ‘built to last’ in today’s hardwearing climate!
Standing for ‘Builder in a Bottle, BIAB is a gel with a thicker consistency that gives a stronger base to the natural nail. Being extremely versatile, it can create a sturdy tip in place of an acrylic tip, extending the natural nail – basically hitting the nail on the head in terms of easy application and lasting quality.
Available in a subtle range of hues from pastel pinks to purples, any colour polish or gel can also be easily painted on top to no detriment to the BIAB Gel underneath.
With a straightforward application time of 1 hour 15 minutes, the natural nail strengthening gel can last anywhere from 3 to 4 weeks due to its durability and resilience. In fact, during the nail-biting time of lockdown, a client had reported her BIAB Gel had remained for an incredible 8 weeks – time to ‘build up your hopes’ for a longer lasting, healthier approach to nail extensions.
Even though BIAB Gel is proving to be currently the product of choice, once applied, and cured under a UV lamp, submerging hands in hot water for long periods of time should be avoided to prevent softening, and regular application of cuticle oil greatly recommended to maintain moisture to the nail and bed as it grows out.
The urge to pick and peel the gel should be strongly discouraged as this can result in peeling and sensitivity to the nails underneath, making them brittle and thin – defeating the objective of growing them in a safeguarded way.
The removal of BIAB is the same process as with Shellac Gel with the gentle soaking in acetone.

Applying heated mittens helps this to really penetrate and sink into the skin, leaving your hands feeling lovely and soft.
Then, we will file, buff and paint your nails in your chosen colour, ensuring your nails look gorgeous.

Luxury Pedicure
Whether you’re jetting off on holiday, have a glamorous event to attend, or simply want to give your feet a little TLC, choose a Luxury Pedicure at our nail salon in Rotherham.
During this treatment you can expert one of our professional beauty therapists to file and buff away the hard skin on your feet, before applying a moisturising treatment.
Applying a heated wrap to your feet allows the moisturiser to really sink into the feet and get to work whilst you sit back and relax.
We finish by filing, buffing and painting your toenails so they’re flip flop or high heel ready!
Why not add on a Paraffin Wax treatment for the ultimate in luxury footcare?
Optional add-on: Paraffin Wax
A Paraffin Wax treatment can be added onto our Luxury Manicure or Pedicure treatments, and will leave your skin feeling baby-soft.
We apply a soft wax to the hands or feet, and allow this to soak for 15 – 30 minutes. It’s a great way to repair dry, cracked heels or hands, and make them silky smooth again.
Once the wax has begun to harden, it will open up your pores to eliminate dirt or toxins, along with dead skin cells which keeps your skin feeling dry and dull.
